Earlier, we heard from xo Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, who has also been speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
He says "people should act sensibly" once restrictions are lifted over wearing masks.
“If you accept the premise that we are not going to wear masks forever there will always come a point where we're not going to mandate them," he says.
He urges vulnerable people who were concerned about protection from infection to "take advice from doctors and GPs" as they would have done pre-Covid.
He adds that clearly the infection rate is going up, but the vaccine roll-out has “made a huge difference”, allowing the government to take this step.
On the challenge facing businesses over the delay to easing the self-isolation rule, Kwarteng says the challenge for government is "on one hand being told restrictions are too onerous, on the other being told we’re too loose".
He says waiting until 16 August "makes sense" as more people will be protected by the vaccine.
Asked if there could be any change to the planned dates, he says "we have to assume this it" although he adds that the government has to be "nimble" if the data changes.
